In a paper published in 2015 called ‘The Long Wait for a Home’ by the Leonard Cheshire Disability Charity the above statement was issued.
The paper identified that there is a huge shortage in the amount of housing available for disabled and older people. The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) was found to be lacking with almost 2,500 people in need were waiting over a year to have any adaptations done in their home with applications growing by 6% a year and approved/completed works by only 3%.
With a growing population of older people and the strong demand for adapted homes the time is now for the UK Government to act.
