What is Occupational Therapy? - Adaptec Group

Occupational therapy or therapist are usually referred to as OT’s. They generally provide health and social care duties for persons in need. The profession is regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council. An OT takes a ‘whole-person approach’ to physical and mental health and well being. Their aim is to enable individuals to achieve their full potential.

“Occupation” as a term refers to practical and purposeful activities that allow people to live independently and have a sense of identity. This could be essential day-to-day tasks such as self-care, work or leisure. Occupational therapists work with adults and children of all ages with a wide range of conditions; most commonly those who have difficulties due to a mental health illness, physical or learning disabilities. An occupational therapist will consider all of the patient’s needs – physical, psychological, social and environmental.

You can find OT’s privately or through your local authority. DW Services has work with and alongside a growing number of OT’s privately and through the long list of local authorities to which we are an ‘approved contractor’.
